Wire Laying

Vehicles > 1/6 Scale > Axis > Kettenkrad

I was able to purchase the kit for £47 which includes this trailer Sd.Ah 1. It is much better detailed than any of the same shape that I have seen.

The wheels spin independantly but do not have any suspension.

The only things that could be improved is if Dragon provided a fake canvas cover to go over the trailer.

Also notice how large the towing eye is - it's much too big and I will have to sleeve it to make it a snug fit on the Kettenkrads tow hook.

Here are two views of the drum rack, the frame is made out of metal bar and the drums are plastic. This is quite heavy.

I had to bend the legs to make it fit my Kettenkrad properly but it looks good when fitted.

Once the brackets are secured to the hull of the Kettenkrad it's possible to remove the whole frame, it can be lifted on & off to allow access to the hatches etc.

The brackets are glued and bolted on, I decided that just glue was not strong enough if I was removing the frame regularly, so I fitted a pair of hex head bolts through each bracket.

The rear bolts have nuts in the rear seat area which do not stop the seat lifting up. The front bolts are blind and are just threaded into the plastic and glued on.

These pictures were taken before I finished and painted the bolt heads.

Also note that I have removed a small semi-circle of the body just above the mounting, this makes it much easier to drop the cage in and remove it.

Complete Model with cage fitted & trailer

I intend to make a fake canvas cover for this trailer.

Now with canvas cover.

The eyelets are 2mm in diameter.
