Tracks

Vehicles > 1/6 Scale > Axis > Sdkfz250/5
The tracks that come with the kit are poor quality, in their scale appearance and strength. I had been looking for a replacement set for many years and then spotted these from Spyker Workshops although quite expensive still cheaper than cast metal alternatives, they have a better scale appearance and are made of much tougher plastic unfortunatly he is no longer making them as of April 2020
Sd.Kfz 250 real track link

This is a real Sd.Kfz 250 track link
This is a picture of a real 251 halftrack, note which way the links are going.
New track fitted, I had to use 44 links per side.
Also note these links are just under 40mm wide compared with 43mm for the originals. So the road wheels can get very close to the edge of the links or even pop off but initial driving seems fine.
This is the left hand drive sprocket, (drivers side), look how the links sit nice and flat against the sprocket and that the teeth on the sprocket are at the top of each flat section (looking at the right hand side of the sprocket).
This is the right hand drive sprocket, notice how the links are NOT sitting flat against the sprocket, and that the drive teeth are at the bottom of each flat section, it seems that this kit has two left hand sprockets supplied (and no you can't just turn it around, nor fit the track the other direction) obviously a bit disappointing but other than replacing the sprocket not much I can do about it.
I will do some driving tests and see if it makes and difference to the reliability of the tracks.
