Blizzard Tyres
Vehicles > 1/10 Scale > Blizzard
My Blizzard tyres had started to deform and split so I needed to replace them but considering this is a 1980's kit I could not find anyone still selling them so I decided to mould my own.
I had already done the tyres for the 1/6 scale M8 Greyhound so I would follow a similar process but I knew that to make 10 tyres the mould would need to last longer than the M8 one, which is made of softish silicone. So I went for a harder moulding material but the same stuff for the actual tyres themselves.
I also realised that to make a real hollow tyre like the original would be impossible for my limited skills so I would mould a solid tyre straight on to the wheel itself. This gets over the deformity problem and the tyre will exactly match whichever wheel it's moulded too.
In the pictures you can see the mould I created and some of the tyres which I produced, notice that I almost always get an air bubble trapped in the tyre and this leaves a hole which I fill with raw rubber (which leaves the shiny patch)
This imperfection is not really an issue because the tyre is covered by the tracks most of the time and these imperfections can't be seen.
