As you can see the motor and gearbox is quite short, you do have to cut the encoder shaft off of the back of the motor.
Remove 5mm off of the end of the motor shaft (it's too long) then grind a flat on the shaft suitable to take the drive collets, at least 8mm long. I did all this with my Dremel with various grinding discs fitted. The models top speed is about walking pace which is quite acceptable. I purchased a pair of motors from www.activerobots.com
